Is Apple MacBook software different from iPhone and iPad?

This article was written before Apple produced macOS Big Sur, iPhone and iPad applications can now run on macOS computers to learn more:

Apple finally did it.. macOS Big Sur, run iPhone and iPad apps on your MacBook.

We received many responses from our honorable visitors saying: is there a difference between iPhone and iPad applications and between MacBook applications or Mac devices in general!

Certainly, there was a difference between the applications on the iPhone and iPad and the applications on the MacBook, iMac or any Apple computer.

Where the iPhone and iPad devices run on the “iOS” system, while Apple’s computers run on the “macOS” system, and each of them works differently from the other.

If the application is paid for and you buy it on the iPhone or iPad, i.e. on the “iOS” system, and you try to buy the same application for one of the Apple computers, you pay again, and The price may be different between the two systems.

But will this go on indefinitely?!

Apple plans to run iPhone and iPad apps on Macs

In June of the current 2020, Apple announced that it had launched a project to develop the operating systems for all its devices, with the aim of being able to access the same application from every other device in its production.

This may not seem like a drastic change, but it brings Apple closer than ever to a step it has been slow to take for so long: turning macOS and iOS into a unified platform.

This move, of course, comes from Apple’s attempt to focus on growth outside of the traditional iPhone market due to last year’s drop in sales, as it was one of the companies most affected by the decline in smartphone sales.

Will Apple abandon Intel processors?

For the past decade, Intel has focused on competing with AMD and has not done much for Apple in this regard.

In the meantime, Apple has appointed the former Chief CPU Engineer for ARM, the company behind ARM processors, and has made enough progress in switching to ARM that the company is expected to make the switch in late 2020 or 2021.

Meanwhile, Apple has been rumoured to be working on a new range of MacBooks based on the same chips as the iPad and iPhone, called the ARM Architecture.

A laptop running on the iPad/iPhone chipset is likely to have longer battery life, generate less heat and not require fans.

Since Apple designs this type of chip itself, putting it in a MacBook would eliminate the company’s dependence on Intel, which currently supplies Apple CPUs for laptops and desktops.

How will Apple end the difference between iPhone and iPad applications and Mac devices?

Switching to a new type of processor is not easy, and it could mean that all the apps you use on macOS today simply won’t work.

This is because they were designed for a specific type of processor architecture called x86, so app developers have to build almost all their apps from scratch.

It would be easy if users could replace macOS apps that no longer work with iOS apps.

This isn’t the first step Apple has taken in this direction, as the company began closing the gap between its platforms in 2018 when it unveiled a tool codenamed Marzipan that allowed iPad app developers to bring those apps to macOS with little effort.

That tool was renamed Catalyst and debuted in 2019 along with macOS Catalina. While there is still work for developers to port these apps, it is much less effort than writing an app from scratch, and easier to maintain long in the long run.

With the debut of iPadOS, which separated the tablet-focused iOS version into its own product for the first time, the iPad really began to function like a computer.

Apple added mouse support to the iPad in iOS 13, and full external keyboard support was also added in the beta version of iOS 13.4.

Apple is not the only company that wants to break away from Intel

Microsoft beat Apple to the punch in 2018 by adding Windows ARM processor support, debuting on its flagship Surface Pro X tablet that uses the architecture.

While the Surface Pro X has all the features you would look for in this type of device, from a long battery and ultra-thin design, there are no fans of this device.
