Cloud Computing Services

Until a few years ago, there weren’t many cloud providers. The recent trend of companies towards hybrid clouds has gained a new entry. I have compiled a list of the top ten cloud service providers. Note that I have not ranked them in any order such as “good to bad” or “bad to good”. The list only includes the ten most commonly used and useful names in the field. Let us know how you will rate it.

Cloud Computing Services

1] Microsoft Cloud Services

There are many name cloud services from Microsoft, including OneDrive, Office 365 and Azure. The OneDrive and Office web apps are good. As a storage and synchronisation software, OneDrive is one of the most widely accepted cloud storage services. I visit well, but people have their own preferences. From what I’ve read on the internet and elsewhere, Azure has a long way to go before it gains more customers. What changes can Microsoft make to Azure to make it more popular and sell globally? So far I’ve heard they are adding more data centres to Azure to speed up operations.

2] IBM Cloud

IBM Cloud has two main offerings:

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and
Cloud software (Software as a Service – SaaS).
It also offers the platform as a service and calls it BPaaS (Business Platforms as a Service). The company has helped people build their own clouds and simplify these private clouds with public clouds to create a hybrid cloud that organisations (customers) can use. The best part is that you don’t have to spend a lot of time and money building and simplifying hybrids.

Since IBM engineers are experts, they get it done quickly and cheaper. Also, in my other article on Hybrid Clouds, I mentioned that IBM is the best choice for Hybrid Clouds as their service is easy to set up and gives you good security for both your cloud and IBM cloud products.

Note: I will explain SaaS, PaaS and IaaS software in detail in a separate article. Currently, SaaS is when cloud software is installed on your device for services like backup, synchronisation, etc. PaaS, where the cloud provides you with a platform to do things. For example, instead of investing in or customizing things, developers can develop and test their products on PaaS. Infrastructure as a Service is self-explanatory. You don’t have to buy and set up infrastructure. You just use the infrastructure provided by various cloud service providers, especially IBM. Furthermore, you can add or reduce the things you need and only pay for the things you use, making it the most affordable option for businesses.

3] Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud

Basic Platform as a Service (PaaS), Amazon Cloud provides a platform for developers and students, a place where they can develop their applications. It also provides them with utilities to test software such as VMWare. From the Amazon EC2 homepage:

“Amazon Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service that provides customizable computing capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web computing easier for developers. ”

Speaking of Amazon EC2, it must be mentioned how some hackers created a real account with EC2 and used it for Sony Playstation Data Breach. However, this does not mean that IBM Clouds offer less security. They use SSL and keep operations encrypted throughout the session.

4] Cloud Citrix Platform

Another big name in the IT industry, Citrix, is now planning to become king size. Visit www.cloud.com to see some waves coming. I can’t say at this point why I kept the domain and asked for the email IDs, but I think it would be something that individuals and businesses could use in addition to their own cloud. But that’s the future. Currently, the Citrix homepage says:

“Citrix CloudPlatform, powered by CloudStack, is the industry’s only proven cloud-centric buffering solution of the future, reliably and effectively orchestrating both traditional enterprise and cloud native application workloads within a single unified cloud management platform.”

This statement gives the impression that Citrix is focused on more hybrids rather than offering full public cloud solutions to its customers. I may have misinterpreted it. Please correct me if so.

5] Joyent

Joyent was chosen by Dell to support its cloud. If you choose a network like “LinkedIn” Joyent, you can be sure that the cloud provider is one of the best. Joyent makes it clear on its homepage that this also applies to hybrids:

“High-performance hybrid cloud for today’s demanding web and mobile apps”.

Basically, the company works with organizations to help them with special-purpose and mixed clouds. Visit www.joyent.com to learn more about the company. The Wikipedia entry on Joyent will confuse you.

6] BlueLock Cloud Services

The company offers itself as a data recovery service. It coined a new term called “Refund as a Service”. It is clear that if your data becomes unusable, it can be recovered with Bluelock Cloud Services. This comes under the SaaS category.

The company also offers IaaS. Businesses can use only the amount of infrastructure they want and increase or decrease the elements used based on requirements. Among its many services, it also offers a cloud solution called VMware vCloud Datacenter Service Provider. According to its website, this is primarily for creating hybrid clouds using VMware tools.

7] Verizon Cloud

This may come as a surprise to many. Verizon is basically a network provider and offers on-demand video, etc. Well, I have Terremark and they are all set to offer cloud services. I include it in this list because Verizon is very popular, while Terremark has a good background in providing cloud services. With more than 50 data centres worldwide, I am confident that Verizon-Terremark will be successful in the near future.

Essentially, Infrastructure as a Service and Conversations will continue to offer some Oracle products to their customers as a cloud service device. This way, users are using the latest version of the product as Verizon/Terremark keeps them up to date.

8] SalesForce Cloud – Ruby as a Service

Salesforce is a household name and the newly acquired Heroku, the company that offers the Ruby platform, is expanding steadily. Lower rates and greater flexibility make it attractive to business houses. Again, I think this would be a hybrid cloud rather than people opting for Ruby completely – no cloud within the enterprise. Also, Hereku is a Paas (Platform as a Service) that allows developers to not only build their software but also test it.

9] RackSpace Cloud

This is one of the most popular cloud service providers that run their offerings mainly on OpenSpace code. The latter is open source code for developers interested in building cloud-related applications. Rackspace offers all three services: SaaS; parts of the custom set. and IaaS. As more and more people trust Rackspace (mainly because it is built on open source code), the cloud is about to grow both horizontally and vertically.

10] Google Cloud Platform

Although there are not many contenders for it, Google Cloud Platform deserves a mention when it comes to the list of top ten cloud service providers. The main ones are Google App Engine and Google Compute. There are also many other cloud services from Google, such as Google Cloud Print and Google Drive. Logically, you can create apps on Google App Engine and test them with Google Compute, which charges by the minutes you use the service. I can’t comment on the state of the Google Cloud platform at the moment as Google has become used to shutting things down suddenly, but I certainly want to draw your attention to Google Apps, which has become an integral part of most businesses.

The above are the results of my research on cloud computing. I remind you again that the list of the top 10 cloud service providers is in no particular order. Instead, it contains only the most used and popular services with appropriate scope in the near future. Some have already made it to the top, like Amazon … Some others need small changes to further adapt user needs, like Azure … And still others need proper marketing to educate people about the value of cloud services, like Google Compute Motor. After extensive research to compile this list,

I’d love to hear from you about your opinions and experiences with these or other cloud providers.
